The Giselle Shirt Tester Version

Dear readers,

With every new pattern release, there is a moment where I get to step back, look at all the versions sewn during testing, and feel very, very grateful. Seeing the Giselle Shirt come to life in so many different fabrics and on so many different bodies has been one of the best parts of this release.

Today I wanted to share a little thank you to the testers who helped shape this pattern into what it is.

A huge thank you to the Giselle testers

Pattern testing is so much more than checking whether something “works.” It is a real collaboration, and Giselle is better because of it.

I am incredibly grateful to everyone who took the time to sew the pattern, share feedback, ask smart questions, and pay attention to the little things. Those details matter. They are often what turns a good pattern into a much stronger and more enjoyable sewing experience. And also, I have to say, testing in my group is fun, chatty and relaxed. I get so much energy from it!!

What we worked on during testing

With Giselle, we refined quite a few elements throughout the test.

We worked on button placement, which is one of those things that can change the whole feel of a shirt. It needs to look right, sit right, and feel balanced on the body. We also spent time improving the guidance for selecting the right size, because I want the pattern to feel clear and approachable from the very beginning, before you even cut into your fabric.

We also refined the instructions throughout the process, making sure the sewing steps were as clear and helpful as possible. And we played with the length of the upper back section, in the end it stayed the same as it initially was but it's a great luxury to be able to experiment with ideas and get immediate feedback.

These are the kinds of changes that do not always jump out in a finished photo, but they make a real difference when you are sewing the garment yourself.

Why tester feedback matters so much

One of the things I value most in testing is how practical the feedback is. Testers are not looking at the pattern in the abstract. They are printing it, cutting it, sewing it, trying it on, living with the construction choices, and noticing where something could be improved or clarified.

That is exactly the kind of feedback I want. Clear, honest, specific input that helps me refine both the design and the sewing experience.

Giselle really benefited from that process, and I am so thankful to everyone who contributed to it.

The tower placket video is coming soon

One of the suggestions that came up during testing was the idea of adding extra support for the tower placket, and I completely agree. So yes, the tower placket video is coming soon soon soon on the YouTube channel.

I know that for many sewists, seeing a step in motion can make all the difference, especially on a detail like this one. I am very excited to add that resource and make Giselle even easier to tackle with confidence.

Seeing all the Giselles together

Looking through all the tester versions is also the perfect reminder of how much fabric choice changes a pattern. Crisp, soft, striped, plain, classic, playful, polished, relaxed, every version brings out something a little different in Giselle.

That is always one of my favorite parts of a test. You start with one design, and then suddenly you can see so many wardrobes and personalities reflected back through it.
