About Just Patterns
Who I am
Hello, and welcome to my online sewing space. I’m Delphine, I am French and originally from the Paris area. For the past decade, I have been living all over the world. Sewing is my passion and my business, but I am also a freelance consultant for international organizations and the mother of a not-so-little-human-anymore. To know a little more about me, you can find my personal sewing Instagram account: Sewing Tidbits.
It all started when…
I started sewing over 25 years ago. As a teen, I was obsessed with the idea of recreating garments that I couldn't afford. But at the time, I didn't have the skills or the resources to make my dream wardrobe come true. Most of my sewing projects were far from my inspiration.
I read many books, old and new. I took pattern-making and draping classes at prestigious New York and Paris fashion schools. I went to see fashion exhibitions and looked inside all the luxury clothes I could get my hands on. But most importantly, I took advantage of the immense knowledge the online sewing community shared.
To achieve my goal of a luxurious handmade closet, I learned how important it was to stay true to my inspiration. Patterns are just a starting point you need to pair with the right fabric and sewing techniques.
Since 2013, through my sewing blog, and later with Just Patterns in 2017, I document my journey and share what I learned along the way. I hope you will join me in sewing our dream wardrobe, one unique garment at a time!
The patterns
The sewing patterns available in my shop are very much what I want to wear. They are inspired both by current trends and fashion classics. I love clean lines and neutral palettes with distinctive details and exciting construction.
I like to have a lot of control over the creative and technical aspects of releasing patterns. As a result, I do the drafting, grading, instruction writing and all the communications. I recently started getting help for illustrations, sample making, social media videos and photography. All my patterns have been tested and edited. I'm the primary "model" for all my product pictures and I started working with other sewists in 2022 to showcase my patterns on more diverse bodies. My testers, editors and models are all compensated financially.
My sewing patterns are meant for dressmakers who already know the basics of sewing. I provide a cutter’s must, a suggested order of operations, and illustrated step-by-step instructions. I believe in empowering makers to up their skills and improve their sewing with each project. All patterns have a Resource Page, where I add specific tutorials and blog posts for inspiration and complex steps. I also curate fantastic information from other online sewing sources.
Buying and printing the patterns
The patterns are available in PDF format in the shop on this website and on Etsy, and Makerist.
All patterns are available in home-printing format (A4 and US Letter), A0 for copyshop, and Projector files. They are all layered PDF files, so you can print only the sizes you need.
Sizing
I draft and grade my sewing patterns for a height of 5’5” (1.65m) from size 34 to 60. The size range 34-46 is developed for B/C cup size, and the 46-60 size range for a DD cup. I also grade on request. For more information please visit the sizing page.
