As I said here, I spent some time creating a block for a classic pencil skirt complete with lining and facing pattern that I could just pull off every time I found an interesting fabric. I really like the brocade trend this fall, even though it's a bit too dressed up for everyday wear... The initial pattern I used to create the block is from burda. For this version I created princess lines where the darts where located and added piping. I also changed the lapped zipper I initially drafted on the block to an invisible one. I found this pretty invisible zipper at Pacific Trimmings, it has a gold slider !!Working on this block was definitely time well invested as I love the fit ! It was also super handy to have the lining pattern ready to go and now that I have some practice with the vent I don't think I'm ever going to do one in a different way... I found the fabric at Paron here in New York City (label said it's silk...), specifically looking for something gold, but then I got a bit overwhelmed and thought maybe I was too shiny... It is definitely too shiny and when I wore this skirt at the office I felt overdressed but it was fun!! I may keep for the days I have cocktail parties afterwork
