Dear readers,
When I started Just Patterns, I always envisioned releasing patterns that would be a mix of classic, trendy, and detail-oriented. I think I achieved it with this pattern, and since this is probably the most involved pattern since the Linda Wrap Dress, I am extra proud to introduce to you the Tatjana Trousers!
The Tatjana Trousers came actually as a complement to the Tyra tee, the pattern I released in September. Now that I had the perfect oversized t-shirt, I needed the perfect two-pleat tailored trousers to tuck it into! They are also inspired by the return of the 80s’ and 90s’ and traditional tailoring. I’ve already made three versions for myself, and while I do love how they look with high heels, I wear them every day with sneakers and even tucked into second-hand Dr. Marten’s boots for a super casual look.
The pattern is fitted at the waist and relaxed in the hips. The front features 2 flat pleats on each side, slant pockets, a fly. On the back, there are 4 darts to provide shaping. The buttoned single welt pockets are functional and also provide visual interest. The waistband has belt loops and an extension closed with an internal button and hooks and bars.
All samples are cut from wool blends and polyester suiting, and for this pattern, I recommend using I recommend light to medium weight woven fabrics with a good drape such as wool or cotton suiting, wool crepe.
This sewing pattern is available in the full-size range 34 to 56, broken up into 2 size ranges 34-46 and 46-56. The instructions include step-by-step instructions. This pattern is a skill builder with a lot of details. In case you want to learn new techniques or need help, I curate a list of useful tutorials on the resource page!
The pattern includes:
Layered PDF pattern in printing options for each of the 2 size ranges (print at home for letter or A4, A0 and US Copyshop for paper 36" wide);
Cutter's must;
PDF layout;
order of operations ;
and step-by-step illustrated instructions.
This is my third pattern released both in English and French, and I have also started to add translation to certain parts of the website.
As usual, the pattern features Just Patterns’ signature “order of operations” and cutters’ must as it comes in handy for experienced sewists who like to refer quickly to steps without scrolling through pages of instructions.
You may have noticed that the look of things is changing around here! I just completed a redesign thanks to an amazing freelancer, and Tatjana is the first pattern to be laid out with the new template. It greatly improves the readability and ease of use of the patterns, but I would love to hear your thoughts on the new look!
All patterns will soon be updated to be in the same format, and in parallel, I’m continuing to work on the sizing update, translations, and instructions of the Linda Wrap Dress and the Yasmeen skirt. Getting everything aligned and up to my new standards will be my priority for the beginning of the new year!
I hope you will enjoy sewing Tatjana and don't forget to tag #tatjanatrousers if you post on social media! The pattern is 20% off for one week only (until 25 December at 12 pm) to celebrate its release. Take advantage of it now!
Happy sewing and happy holidays!
