Dear readers,
Yesterday, I sent a newsletter that many of you responded to with feedback about Karlie. And your messages were so kind, so helpful and so constructive that I could not just read them and move on. Some of your ideas will have to wait for future patterns, but two things came up again and again that I could do something about: the very short length, with the shorts showing below the skirt, which is the whole point of the design for me but clearly not for everyone, and a launch that came rather late in the season.
The first one really got me thinking. We thought so hard about the variations of this pattern, three views, two waist finishes and two pocket styles, and somehow none of us thought of a longer skirt that would simply cover the shorts. How?? And then the temptation was too high, so I opened the pattern files and the instructions and decided on the spot to add a longer hem cutting line to the skirt pieces.

What changed in the pattern
The skirt front and skirt back of Views A and B now have two cutting lines, in both size ranges: the shorter length you already know, with the shorts peeking out, and a longer length, 2" / 5cm longer, that covers the shorts completely, or simply gives you a longer View B skirt. Everything else is exactly as before, the shorts, the facings, the waistband, the pockets and the construction steps, and the instructions, finished measurements and fabric requirements have been updated to match. If you bought Karlie earlier this week, you have already received the updated files, along with an email explaining which files to reprint.
My longer Karlie
Next was running to the studio to print and cut. Luckily I still had some of that gorgeous rust wool, and I found an old remnant of Elizabeth Suzann silk in the exact same shade for the shorts (fancy me 😅), so what followed was a bit of mad cutting and sewing, which I finished this morning while my kids happily draped their own designs next to me. My 10-year-old was then in charge of taking the pictures, and I think you will agree that she did a wonderful job 😍.
Unfortunately, I cannot do much about the calendar, I styled it for autumn this time, with boots, tights and a cashmere sweater knitted by my mom, although a short-sleeved one, because that is all I could handle for a photoshoot in 25 degree Lisbon.

I made View A in the longer length in size 36 graded to 40 at the hip, with the waistband finish and no pockets.

Launch offer, extended
