The Giselle Shirt is a classic relaxed-fit button-down elevated by three distinct back options: from a knotted back with a subtle skin reveal, to a cinched waist with full coverage, to a clean and timeless classic. From the front, Giselle is everything you'd expect from a well-made shirt. The back is where it surprises you.

Design Features

All three views share the same polished front: a structured shirt collar, front placket, chest pocket, long sleeves with one-piece tower plackets and cuffs, and a curved hem. In all views, front buttons can be left open below the waist to create a distinctive V shape.
  • View A: Cropped upper back + a lower back section that wraps and ties into a center back knot. A subtle reveal at the waist and a beautiful opportunity to play with stripe or pattern orientation.
  • View B: Cropped upper back layered over a full lower back, with adjustable back ties to cinch the waist to your preference. Full coverage with a fitted silhouette.
  • View C: Classic full back. Clean lines. Timeless.

Suggested Fabrics

Light to medium weight wovens with structure and drape: cotton poplin, voile, chambray, shirting, linen and linen blends, silk. The cover sample is made from striped cotton oxford.

Sizing

Available in sizes 34–60, in two size ranges:
  • 34–46: drafted for a B/C cup
  • 46–60: drafted for a DD cup (includes bust dart)
Drafted for a height of 5'5" / 1m65. Relaxed fit with significant ease, if you're between sizes, go with the smaller one. If your measurements are at least on full size outside the chart (smaller than 34 or larger than 60), I grade at no extra cost.

I am 5'3"/1m60 and wear the striped Oxford cotton View A and cotton gingham View C in size 34 with no alterations. Lilli is 5'5"/1m65 wears the green stripe linen View A and the cotton poplin View C in size 52. Pauline is 5'7"/1m70 and wears the chambray View B in size 44 with lengthened sleeves and additional waist ease.

Sizing

I draft and grade my sewing patterns for a height of 5’5” (1.65m) from size 34 to 60 (see below). When applicable, the size range is divided between 34-46, developed for B/C cup size, and 46-60, developed for a DD cup size.

If your body measurements are at least one size outside of the size range, I grade up or down at no cost.

PDF Pattern information

This is a PDF sewing pattern, you will receive access to a download link immediately after completing your purchase.

Files are delivered in a zip file meant to be decompressed. The zip file contains:

  1. Instructions in English and in French with: a cutter's must, a printing layout, an order of operations, and step-by-step illustrated instructions.
  2. Layered PDF patterns pieces for both size ranges in 3 formats: print at home for US letter or A4, A0, and Projector;

You need to open the pattern files with Adobe Reader and ensure that printing options are set to "Actual Size" or "Custom size 100%".
