Dear readers,
Patch pockets look simple, but getting them to look crisp, flat, and perfectly even on both sides is where the skill is. In this tutorial, I show you how to sew an invisible patch pocket, also called a bluff patch pocket, without a lining.

Why this pocket looks so clean
A bluff patch pocket gives you that tailored, intentional finish because there is no visible topstitching around the pocket edge. The pocket looks almost integrated into the garment.
I demonstrate the technique on a knit (for the Christy Cardigan) and on a woven (for the Freja Vest), but you can apply it to many other garments. Plus I share my best tips for perfectly identical pockets every time! In the video, I walk you through the method step by step so you can replicate it with confidence.
Three patterns with this pocket
Be careful, these pockets are a little bit addictive, and once you have sewn one you will start seeing places for them everywhere. Luckily you will find them on three of my patterns: the Christy Cardigan, where the pocket sits on a knit, the Freja Vest, where it gives a woven vest that clean tailored finish, and the Karlie Skort, where the pockets sit on the front. So once you have practised on one of them, you will have the other two covered, which is my favourite kind of sewing knowledge, the kind that keeps paying off from one project to the next.
