Freja is a sleek, semi-fitted vest that embodies a modern and minimalistic style. Princess seams create a smooth, contoured fit, highlighted by a defined waistline. The front gently flares out from the waist, adding lightness and contemporary flair.

The vest is fully lined and reaches the lower hip. It features a back buckle and belt detail that cinches the waist and adds visual interest.

The pattern includes two pocket options: discreet welt pockets for a refined, tailored look, and practical rounded patch pockets for a casual style. The Freja Vest pattern now also comes with an optional unlined version, perfect for lighter fabrics or a softer, more relaxed silhouette. The add-on includes an alternative front facing, and the instructions guide you through this variation using front and back facings, with edge finishes that can be serged or bound.

Samples are all sewn in heavy-weight linen suiting and mid-weight linen with an acetate or thin cotton lining. For this pattern, I recommend medium-weight woven fabrics with a good drape, such as wool suiting, wool crepe, lightweight wool tweed, cotton twill, linen, and linen-cotton blends.

I wear the grey suiting version in size 34 with the welt pockets and no alterations, with a denim version of the Tatjana Trousers and a lace Stephanie skirt. I also wear the unlined version with the patch pockets, made from organic cotton Toile de Jouy, in size 34. Pauline wears her brown linen Freja in size 46 (of the 34-46 range) with the waist relaxed. Lilli wears a green linen one in size 50 with no alterations.

I'm a beginner and I was able to finish the vest without any problem following the YouTube video! The patterns are really good!

Great Vest Jacket Pattern

A great pattern with easy to follow instructions. More like a jacket than a vest top as I used needle cord. Beautiful on the inside due to the lining too. True to size

A new favorite

Love the tailored vest. I made it in a favorite long-stashed speckled cobalt Essex linen bland. I went with sz 44 and it fit perfectly without adjustments. I made a muslin in size 46 and found it was too big. I absolutely love the patch pocket instructions. But I had a hard time understanding how to sew the hem. I ended up with good results, but I will look for a video tutorial next time. I have more planned. I love the matching sets I've been seeing on Instagram.

Gorgeous top

I made this structured, stylish vest and love the finished garment. It is quite tailored, can be dressed up or down. I used linen/cotton with cotton shirting remnant for lining to wear as a casual summer garment, using the patch pocket option.
The instructions were detailed and comprehensive but also included a construction process list as a summary. I loved the way the lining was finished at the hem and front edge and also the pockets attached with internal stitching.
I made a toile out of old sheeting in a size 40 but decided to size up to 42 which turned out perfectly and was pretty spot on for my measurements. The only change I would make next time is to raise the armhole about 1 cm but that is just a personal preference being older. I can also wear it with a t-shirt or similar underneath for a more covered and layered look.
