Dear readers,
I’m very excited to be (re) introducing a pattern that has been flying under the radar for many years. It is also the last pattern that was pending its update with the new size range and instructions and I could not have been more pleased to finally have an updated catalogue before the end of 2022. Usually updating one of the older patterns has entailed the following: adding the 48 to 60 sizes, using the new layout for the instructions, writing and illustrating detailed instructions, updating the pattern files and adding the projector ones, and translating everything into French. But this time, I also wanted to take some time to change some elements of the drafting so that it is better aligned with my current block, creating new variations with a mini and a midi length, and changing the inner bits with a facing and optional lining.
It turned out way more ambitious that I initially thought and I almost thought I would not make it, but thanks to the help of my testers here we are!! I also am very lucky again to have my favorite models help me showcase the different versions of Yasmeen: Pauline (which you recognize of course from her IG account @sewuthinkucan) and Lilli (the beautiful @Frocksandfroufrou on IG) .
Let me introduce you to the new and improved Yasmeen Skirt :
Yasmeen is a dramatic skirt with exciting seam lines available in 3 lengths: mini, midi, and maxi. The three versions are fitted through the hips, and the midi and maxi skirts start flaring at the knee. Depending on the fabrication and the styling, the skirt can take on a special occasion look or a more casual vibe.!
The skirt features an invisible zipper, and the waistband is finished with a facing. The mini and midi versions have an optional lining. French seams and seam binding are used for clean finishings of the unlined versions. so that everything is as clean whether you are using a lining or not. You could also use the midi lining for a partial lining of the maxi version!
The samples are made from brown mid-weight tweed, white heavy viscose crepe, gold jacquard, floral Gobelin tapestry weave, sequins, beige wool suiting, and blush linen twill. For this pattern, I recommend woven fabrics with drape, such as mid-weight silk crepe, noil and satin, viscose, linen, challis, wool crepe, suiting, and tweed or synthetic alternatives. Fabrics with less drape can be used for the mini length, such as denim or cotton twill.
Yasmeen is perfect when paired with the Alek Rib Top, the Tyra Tee, or even a matching Veronica Vest. I think you will have a lot of fun sewing it in different fabrics and styling it.
The pattern is drafted for a height of 5'5" (1m65) and is available in the full size range: 34-60. Since it is now an updated pattern, I offer to grade up or down at no extra cost if your measurements are at least one full size outside of the size range. You can read more about the size range here. The pattern pieces all include lengthening/shortening lines since it was the most common alteration required while testing. This is a quick and easy sew, but in case you need help, I curate a list of helpful tutorials on the resource page!
The pattern is now available in English and in French. It includes:
a layered PDF pattern in 3 formats for each of the 2 size ranges (print at home for US letter or A4, A0, and Projector);
a cutter's must (a summary table of the pattern pieces and cutting information);
a PDF layout;
an order of operations;
and step-by-step illustrated instructions.
Each length (mini, midi, and maxi) are drafted in the same way but separated to make the files easier to use. The pattern features Just Patterns’ signature “order of construction” as it comes in handy for experienced sewists who like to refer quickly to steps without scrolling through pages of instructions.
If you bought the pattern before, you can of course, receive the update for free. I already sent an updated link to those of you who bought it recently but if you purchased it a while ago or not in my shop, send me a message with your order number and I will send you your pattern.
